This year's Visalia Faire (aka, the Tulare County Renaissance Faire) will have as it's theme, the Ridolfi Plot, which will put it squarely into the 1570-1571 timeline. Details of the day's fun are still pending, but we've managed to get a copy of a moderately early outline of the events.
Saturday noon show: On stage, privy council members Queen enters from progress agenda could include : The bill from Parliament condemning Mary Queen of Scotts for her part in the Revolt of theĀ Northern Earls the year before. It would remover her from the succession. Petition of Jane Howard countess of Westmorland to be pardoned for her part in the Revolt Marriage (as always) Elizabeth and the Court start to leave the assassin attempts to kill Elizabeth. Assassin detained, the search him and find the papal bull from Pius V excommunicating Elizabeth and urging all true Catholics to kill her. Assassin removed for questioning. Elizabeth announces she will continue her progress, Burgley and Walsingham object. She states if she has lost the loyalty and love of her true subjects, her life means little. Break - repast Queen upset over plot to kill her (duh), children's court to cheer her. She states she is retiring to pray, has secret meeting with Mary Q. of S., makes her swear she has nothing to do with the attempt on her life. Sunday Noon Show: Privy Council Bring in the assassin looking the worst for wear, he confesses to plot, names Roberto Rodolfi, Mary andĀ Norfolk. Queen doesn't believe Mary is involved. They show her letters recovered from Rodolfi's messenger arrested in Dover. Details the plot involving Duke of Alba, Pius V and Philip II. They have words,Elizabeth expels Spanish ambassador from England, he storms out. Mary and Norfolk brought in, Mary denies involvement in the plot, admits that she has had dealings with Ridolfi. Norfolk admits to plans to marry Mary, not to treason. Elizabeth sets trial for after repast. repast Trial of Norfolk Mary questioned, accused of treason, she declares that she can not be guilty of treason as she is not an English citizen. Norfolk (possibly others) tried, found guilty. Queen sends him to tower to await execution, Elizabeth shows mercy and commutes sentence to just beheading. Mary is told she is no longer a guest but is to remain under house arrest. |
